At Sparkletots Queenstown, we embrace the uniqueness and diversity of every child. We plan appropriate learning experiences that are based on an understanding of growth and development combined with respect for each individual. Opportunities are provided in our programme for a wide array of learning experiences to support the development of children holistically. We hope to nurture children to be confident, competent, responsible and resilient life-long learners.
We make learning process fun and interesting, engaging children through their different learning modalities. Activities in our programme that support our goals include:
DAILY ACTIVITIES
1. Integrated and Interactive Lessons
Lessons are planned according to the key objectives of each age group and their designated themes of interest.
Six key learning areas are integrated into the daily plan. They are:
- Language and literacy
- Numeracy
- Aesthetics and creative expression
- Environmental awareness
- Self and social awareness
- Motor skills development
There is a balance between:
- Teacher directed and child initiated learning
- Individual exploration and cooperative learning
- Content knowledge acquisition and skills development
- Instructional and hands-on learning
- Free choice and purposeful play
Time is allocated for outdoor activities every day. The use of the outdoors makes a major contribution to physical and environmental education and enhances many other curriculum areas. it contributes to personal growth especially that of motor development and social awareness. There is also a great deal of intrinsic enjoyment and satisfaction to be experienced from participation in outdoor activities.
Outdoor activities include the following:
Cycling, gardening, games to practice motor skills, free play, grams with rules, educational walk around the neighbourhood, sand play, water play, easel board painting, chalk drawing etc.
3. Large group and Circle Time
Children have daily communal time together as a whole class for group interaction and sharing session. Social skill and sense of togetherness is greatly enhanced.
4. Learning Centre Time
Learning centres are independent stations set up throughout the classroom where children can engage in some learning activity. These are purposeful plya environment setup to induce play and foster development in different areas.
In our Centre, five learning centres are set up in each classroom correlated with the respective lesson themes. They are:
- Literacy centre
- Manipulative & Discovery Centre
- Dramatic Centre
- Construction centre
- Art & Craft centre
EXTENDED LEARNING
To enrich and support the learning experiences of the children, the following activities are also conducted on frequent basis:
1. In-house Activities
In-house activities such as a talk conducted by an invited guest or a celebration of an occasion enhance children's learning with much fun and novelty.
The purpose of field trip is to expand learning beyond the classroom and ignite an interest in the destination or topic combined with fun. It provides experiences that cannot be duplicated in the classroom.
